St. Michael Academy is a premier college prep school that takes our Christian obligations and vocations seriously.

In this complicated age, when the broader culture is severely testing our beliefs, we must become much more intentional and much more knowledgeable in the faith. Rather than sheltering our students, we arm them with the light of the world and courage of St. Michael, and teach them to spread the law of love through selfless acts of charity and mercy.

We want our graduates to be happy warriors on their faith journey, standing-up for what they know is Right, but doing so in a joy-filled and non-judgmental fashion. As Jesus directs in John 13:35, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

“St. Michael Academy’s (SMA) grassroots effort has fueled enthusiasm within our faith communities to open new and even expand existing Catholic high schools across our Diocese. Although St. Michael Academy is currently independent, we are exploring ways to partner with and support SMA as they grow. Catholic high schools are of great value to the Church and to our communities. It is hoped that SMA’s success can serve as a model for other communities.”

“It’s such a delight to be around St. Michael Academy students. They are welcoming, fun, respectful, intelligent and polite. It’s nice to engage with students who look you in the eye and smile. Not only does St. Micheal Academy teach boldly the Catholic Faith, but also it teaches the students how to think and how to engage with our modern culture in a way that leads them to become positive influences within that culture and not blind victims of its flaws.”

Fr. Joe Graff

Pastor (Retired), The Catholic Communities of L’Arbre Croche

“When efforts first began on the formation of a Catholic High School in Emmet County, I was very skeptical. This was especially true if the new school followed a traditional model with large staffs and great expenses.

Over these last couple of years of celebrating Mass at SMA, I have come to know the excellent environment and education that these students are receiving in ways that couldn’t be imagined several years ago.

I support the school enthusiastically as it continues to grow and offer more opportunities for growth in so many ways to our young men and women.  Congratulations to all who made it happen.  It is a wonderful addition to our entire community.”

“As an altar server, my faith is very important to me, and at St. Michael Academy, we can talk about it in a way that helps us understand it better and explain it to others who might not be Catholic. St. Michael makes me proud to be Catholic!”

“To me, the thing that makes St. Mike’s different is the books we read. For example, right now in history we are reading Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations and The Federalist Papers. Where else can you read and discuss such cool books and thinkers that built our country? With this background, I know I will be ready for college courses.”

“In a lot of ways, it was a big risk to start St. Michael Academy, and for students like me to attend such a new and small school. But now that I am a senior, and I look back on all the leadership opportunities I have been able to experience, I realize that there is nowhere else I’d rather graduate from than St. Michael. I am definitely ready now to step-up and be a young Catholic leader!”
